The Champions League is back under way and so the football season is officially in full flow.

There was plenty of action over the last few days, with some huge scorelines up and down the country, as the English and Scottish champions both made big statements about defending their crowns.

The FA Cup moved a step closer to the full tournament, with the second qualifying round taking place, while there was plenty of late drama all round.

Let’s take a look at what everyone’s been talking about at the weekend.

1) In the hotseat

Look, there are some things you only realise you needed when you find out they exist for the first time.

If anything fits that description, it’s this:

2) Eight to be you

Manchester City were flying high as they recorded an 8(eight)-0 win over Watford in the second game of Quique Sanchez Flores’ second reign at Vicarage Road, going two better than they managed in last season’s FA Cup final against the Hornets.

Just spare a thought for the 1.4million people who saw the scoreline and assumed their fantasy football captain had got them a shedload of points, only to discover Raheem Sterling was an unused substitute.

3) You can take the man out of City...

West Ham boosted their chances of qualifying for Europe this season with a comfortable 2-0 win over Manchester United

If it feels like Manuel Pellegrini has masterminded more than a few victories over the Red Devils, that’s because he has. In fact, the former Man City boss has been pretty much unstoppable against his old rival since arriving in England in 2013 and becoming the first manager to win a post-Fergie Premier League title.

And before you say it, yes we know that football didn’t start in 1992, but the Premier League did.

4) Craig Leveout

A win over Hibs in the Edinburgh derby - their first victory of the season - has done little to ease the pressure on Craig Levein at Hearts, with many expecting a change sooner rather than later at Tynecastle.

5) Kidding around

Hey, want to feel really old and unaccomplished? Evan Ferguson made his senior football debut for Irish side Bohemians as he came off the bench in their Premier Division draw with Derry City on Friday.

He is 14 years old.

6) Stag don’t

Hats off to North Caledonian League leaders Thurso who extended their perfect start to the season with their third straight win at the weekend, despite a chunk of their squad missing for Saturday’s 5-1 win over Bonar Bridge.

7) Shirt happens

Norway might not seem like an obvious stronghold for Roma support, but it seems that Andrine Hegerberg has always had a soft spot for I Giallorossi...

8) Hummus where the heart is

If you’re going to generalise about an entire fanbase, at least make sure you’ve got your facts right first.

9) Taxi for...

The second qualifying round of the FA Cup took place at the weekend and we got to experience some of that infamous magic of the cup as the person in charge of Corby Town’s social media gave us a moment truly befitting of the early rounds of the competition.

In fairness, it was the fifth goal in a 5-0 defeat, so you can understand why they were trying to get out of there.

10) Coming soon to a cinema near you...

After last season’s 'spygate' scandal and the incredible playoff semi-final, you probably thought the Leeds-Derby rivalry couldn’t be any more dramatic.

You thought wrong.

Don’t act like you wouldn’t watch it.

11) Very Angry, Really

The introduction of VAR to the Premier League hasn’t had quite the effect we’d all hoped it would. Rather than preventing injustices, many feel it is simply creating entirely new ones of its own, as every single millimetre on the field is now subject to review.
