The stammer-free moment on Davina's new show that made us all cry

It's a tried and tested, feel-good TV format. Find a likeable member of the public, get them to transform an aspect of their life - weight loss, finding love, overcoming physical challenges - and follow them on their emotional journey.

And with everyone from X Factor to 60 Minute Makeover getting in on the tear-jerking format, you might be forgiven for developing an immunity to this overcoming-adversity routine.

But last night, ITV's new Stars In Their Eyes-style format This Time Next Year evoked the kind of unanimous outpouring of support you rarely see in these jaded, 140-character-dominated times. The reason? A young man called James.

Now, as you can see from that clip, James had a stammer that required serious concentration to overcome during conversation. And we found out from interviews with his mum that it was something that showed up very early in his life.

But at 21, James decided to make a change - and his parents helped him enrol in a speech therapy course to manage his stammer day to day. Fast-forward to Wednesday's show, and James's pledge to Davina was that over the next year, he would take control of his voice and face his fears by returning to his old school to deliver an inspiration speech to teachers and pupils.

And he sure did!

And it wouldn't have been a true Twitter love-in without a few words from the man himself.
