Jurgen Klopp has fulfilled Bill Shankly’s Merseyside prophecy
Meanwhile, how does a 10,000km journey sound for an away day? That's what French side Saint-Pierroise faced this weekend.
The FA Cup third round kicked off a new decade of football with the Premier League teams entering the famous tournament for the first time this season.
It’s one of the biggest dates in the sporting calendar and there was plenty to talk about.
Here’s what people have been saying.
1) Derby demolition
Not content with running away with the Premier League and being crowned world champions last month, Liverpool pulled off their biggest act of dominance yet by winning Sunday’s Merseyside derby with a team of back ups.
Despite fielding a full strength team, Everton still couldn’t break their Anfield curse and will see the game as yet another missed opportunity.
2) Goal of the decade (so far)
Less than a week into the new decade, Rotherham United striker Kyle Vassell has already scored a contender for goal of the 2020s.
3) Kerr package
It wasn’t all about the FA Cup this weekend, however, with Sam Kerr making her much-awaited WSL debut for Chelsea.
After breaking the goalscoring records in Australia and the USA, the 26-year-old showed her class on her first appearance in Blue.
4) Idah feeling he’d score
Norwich booked their place in today’s fourth round draw with a 4-2 win over Preston North End, courtesy of a hat-trick from Adam Idah in just his first senior start for the Canaries..
The 18-year-old Irishman is an exciting prospect who has a history of bagging hat-tricks in big games - just not always in the same sport.
5) Not so keen
Middlesbrough were another side to force a replay against a team in a higher division as they earned a 1-1 draw with Tottenham Hotspur, a result that was no doubt bittersweet for former Spurs striker and current Boro assistant manager Robbie Keane.
6) Blank slate
Manchester United are set for a replay of their own as they avoided being knocked out of the FA Cup by Wolves for the second season in a row - for now, anyway.
Let’s hope the re-match has a bit more action than Saturday’s game.
7) Super sub
As much as we love FA Cup third round weekend, we have to acknowledge that it’s not for everyone.
Just ask Birmingham City midfielder Ivan Sunjic, who put in arguably the worst performance in FA Cup history in the Blues’ win over Blackburn, giving away a penalty and earning himself a red card within three minutes of coming on as a substitute.
8) For the love of the game
No matter how hard we try, some of us just have to accept that our partners will simply never care about football the way we do.
9) A dogged performance
Forget the FA Cup, the most magical moment of the weekend happened in the East of Scotland League Premier Division during Sauchie Juniors’ clash with Dundonald Bluebell.
10) Away days
While the FA Cup can throw up some strange away days for fans to enjoy, nothing quite compares to the chaos of the French Cup where a team from the French colony of Réunion, off the coast of Madagascar, claimed a victory nearly 10,000km away from home.
