USA's goal scoring stats have their fans making the same statement

England have booked their place in the second round, alongside the other big guns like France, Sweden and the Netherlands.

But it is the USA who are once again making headlines after scoring 16 goals from their opening two games.

Let's take a look at what got people talking over the weekend...

1) The American dream

It’s been a tough few years for men’s football in the USA as they failed to qualify for last year’s World Cup and expectations are low heading into the Gold Cup.

The women, on the other hand, are going from strength to strength and may well be crowned world champions for the fourth time this summer.

Which means everyone is now coming up with the same suggestion.

But it just wasn’t enough, as Jodie Taylor’s 61st-minute goal gave England a 1-0 win.

5) Party pooper

Correa wasn’t the only shot-stopper to make her mark at the weekend.

Chile’s Christiane Endler put in a superb performance of her own against the USA on Sunday. But in the end it was the USA's own keeper and her team-mates who ended up spoiling the party for the South Americans.

6) The Flying Dutchwoman

Arsenal striker Vivianne Miedema made history after scoring her 60th goal for the Netherlands on Saturday, becoming the country’s all-time leading women's goalscorer.

Oh, did we mention she’s only 22?

While the focus was understandably on the World Cup in France, Amy Rodriguez did this for the Utah Royals…

In the men’s game, Middlesbrough announced a new coaching team of Jonathan Woodgate and Robbie Keane for next season - a fact which appeared to catch everyone by surprise.

It was Father’s Day in the UK on Sunday and Arsenal fans were out in force to pay tribute to their footballing dad.

10) DIY football scores

You’re always going to have problems picking up points if every visitor makes themselves home at your ground.

Maybe the instructions were too complicated for the first leg but by the time the second game rolled around, the players of Aisle FC put their heads down and adopted a do-it-yourself mentality to pull off an unlikely comeback.

11) Employment Hazards

Real Madrid tied up the biggest move of the summer so far in the men’s game as they signed Eden Hazard from Chelsea.

And the Belgian wasted no time in trying to assert his place as the big dog at the Bernabeu.
