The Scottish Premiership returned from its winter break and the FA Cup marched on with the fifth round kicking off in a busy week off football up and down the country.

Here’s a selection of what people have been chatting about on Twitter.

1) Haalandaise sauce

It would be easy to let Sunday’s 6-0 defeat of a League One side distract from Manchester United’s struggles in the league this season.

If only they had completed that deal for Erling Haaland.

2) When you see it...

Leicester City booked their place in the sixth round of the FA Cup with a 1-0 win over Brentford

Back up goalkeeper Danny Ward stepped in to keep a clean sheet for the Foxes - a feat made more impressive by the fact he apparently did so with his eyes closed.

3) Cumming back

They may be untouchable in the league having only dropped two points all season but a much-changed Liverpool side looked very mortal as they surrendered a 2-0 lead to a Shrewsbury Town side who currently sit 16th in League One.

In the end, it was Jason Cummings’ double off the bench which sent the game to a replay at Anfield as the Scottish footballer became the FA Cup’s latest lower league hero.

That story surfaced in 2017, in relation to an away day with Hibs.

And he didn’t just deliver on the pitch, giving a post-match interview to back up his performance.

4) Ancient history

The FA Cup is the world’s oldest football competition and every so often it makes you acutely aware of your own age.

Henry Wise, son of Dennis Wise, came off the bench for Watford in the third round against Tranmere.

Timothy Weah plays as a forward for the French Ligue 1 club.

5) Save it for the game

Whatever the goalkeeping equivalent of a striker “banging them in for fun in training” is, Ben Foster is doing it.

He's conceded 36 goals in 24 appearances this season.

6) Not so sweet

Look, if we have to see this then so do you. We know fans love their superstitions but we didn’t think “Sir Alan Sugar throwing on a full Spurs kit to watch them draw 1-1 with Southampton” was one of them.

7) There’s no place like home

There are calls once more to eliminate replays from the FA Cup, but then we would miss out on the joy of lower league sides battling out a draw and earning the right to play at a stadium they would never usually visit.

For example, Coventry City’s 0-0 draw with Birmingham City at St. Andrew’s means the Sky Blues will travel away for the replay to take on the Blues at...St. Andrew’s.

Coventry have been ground-sharing with Birmingham for the 2019-20 season.

8) Ironing out the creases

West Ham are currently the club of second chances - from re-hiring David Moyes as manager to re-signing goalkeeper Darren Randolph. Now it seems that mentality has even extended to their team selection.

There’ll be no second chance for them in the FA Cup though as they were eliminated by Slaven Bilic’s West Brom.

9) Old Firm, new tech

There’s something very unsettling about Celtic’s new celebration videos. Bring back the silly gifs.

But even the reality of the team can sometimes feel like an optical illusion - like when 16-year-old Karamoko Dembele lines up for the Bhoys.

This picture of teenage Dembele stood next to six foot three inch defender Christopher Jullien, looking every bit like the latter's mascot, is truly quite something.

10) Absolute chancer

While the world celebrates the creative genius of Liverpool fullback Trent Alexander-Arnold, we risk forgetting about the defender who creates the most chances out of anyone: Arsenal’s Shkodran Mustafi.

Although he is, admittedly, usually creating them for the wrong team.

11) Maximin respect

Well, this is disarming, isn't it?

But is the French winger being a little harsh on himself too? Newcastle United endured a disappointing 0-0 draw with League One side Oxford United in the FA Cup fourth round this weekend, but Maximin, returning from injury, actually forced three saves.
