You can now go to university in the US and be taught in Dothraki by the man who invented the language for Game of Thrones.

'The Linguistics of Game of Thrones and the Art of Language Invention’ is now available on the website for UC Berkeley.

David J. Peterson created the Dothraki language (along with High Valyrian) for Game of Thrones, and he's also an alumni of UC Berkeley, where he completed a Masters in historical linguistics in 2005.

Four years later, he found an actual, professional outlet for making up new languages when he was asked to create the language for Khal Drogo and his people, which he describes as being like a mix of Arabic and Spanish.

Looks like this post is no longer available from its original source. It might've been taken down or had its privacy settings changed.

Because there’s probably not much real-world application for knowing how to speak Dothraki – beyond just getting to geek out in a major, major way – the course will focus on the art of creating a language, rather than simply learning Dothraki.

Still – you will be able to converse with the mother of dragons (in case that ever comes up).

Peterson has also developed languages for Marvel’s Thor and Showtime’s Penny Dreadful, among other credits.
