Another week of football is in the books as the season is well and truly under way.

As we head into the first international break of the new campaign, we were treated to some of the most heated rivalries around the world over the weekend, as well as some exciting late drama across the country’s various divisions.

Let’s take a look at what people have been saying...

1) The O.G. United

Many people were happy to write Sheffield United off before the season even began, but after an incredible comeback against Chelsea to force a draw and some inventive play in the opening weeks of the season, Chris Wilder’s men are starting to impress.

The Blades were actually called 'United' before the Manchester equivalent, as they took on the name way back in 1889, while the Red Devils didn't become 'United' until 1902 - they were founded in 1878 as Newton Heath. Seventh-placed West Ham might claim they currently hold the crown of “best United” in the league though.

2) New kid on the block

While many young players struggle to make the step-up from the Championship to the Premier League, Daniel James is quickly establishing himself as a key player for Manchester United, with three goals in his first four appearances in red.

Don’t worry though, Alexis still has time to bag a few more.

3) Derby days

Two of the biggest derbies in British football took place at the weekend, with Scotland’s top dogs meeting in the Old Firm derby, while Arsenal hosted Spurs for the bragging rights in north London. Elsewhere, Roma and Lazio met in Italy and Boca Juniors took on River Plate in the Superclásico.

There’s just something special about derby day for fans. It can be hard to describe sometimes, but if we had to sum it up in one word it would be: dread.

4) Old firm, same story

Up in Glasgow, Rangers looked to make a statement as they came into the game on the back of a 12-game winning run, hoping to put an end to Celtic’s dominance of Scotland over the last decade.

It did not go to plan.

Neil Lennon’s men cruised to victory in a game that was lacking the usual bite of a meeting between Glasgow’s finest.

5) The name game

While we all love the local derbies, modern football is truly a global game these days. On any given weekend, teams up and down the country will field players from dozens of different nations.

Let’s be honest, we don’t always know how to pronounce the names of our team’s newest players, but presenter Danny Jamieson is doing his part to help.

The thread has plenty of helpful tips - like how to say the name of fantasy football’s latest superstar, Teemu Pukki, as well as some familiar faces you’ve never really been sure about.

6) Are you Barca in disguise?

Rochdale picked up some crucial points on the road with a 3-0 defeat of Southend, with the League One side playing their own version of tiki-taka, as they put together 16 passes in the build-up to their third goal.

Look, all those passes are all well and good, but you simply can’t beat a long-range strike that smashes in off the crossbar out of nowhere.

7) The new wave

Hearts fans will save a prayer that new loan signing Ryo Meshino is hungry like the wolf in front of goal after arriving from Man City for the season.

That’s his fan chant sorted, anyway. Big fans of eighties pop group Duran Duran around those parts.

8) Give me a break

Having started their campaign in the second qualifying stage of the Europa League back in July, Wolves have played more football this season than any other Premier League side so far.

With 10 games already on the books, it’s no wonder that some of them are looking for a way to get a break.

9) View from the top

We’re only four games into the Premier League season, but already it’s looking like it’ll be a straight shootout between Liverpool and Manchester City, with the Reds boasting four wins from four, while the defending champions have dropped just two points.

If it feels like pair are winning a lot of games at the moment, well, that’s because they are.

Meanwhile, the rest of the so-called “big six” aren’t finding quite the same amount of joy as of late.

10) Band name or obscure football club?

There comes a point in everyone’s life when, no matter how hard they try to stay up to date with pop culture, they will see a festival line-up that totally baffles them. All of the words make sense individually, but you realise you just have no idea who any of the performers are.

Or maybe you’re just looking at the Argentinian third division fixture list.
