Adam Lallana has an incredible record at Old Trafford

The hype machine was working overdrive to big up a meeting between England’s two most successful clubs, while at the lower level of the football pyramid, teams were battling out for a place in today’s draw for the FA Cup first round proper.

Here’s what people have been talking about over the last few days on Twitter.

1) Wale of a time

Please take care of any Welsh people in your life this Sunday, with huge games on both the global and the local scale coming for sports fans in old Cymru.  

Make sure to check in on them regularly throughout what is likely to be a tense weekend.

And if you are Welsh yourself, may God have mercy on your soul. 

2) Putting the goal in goalkeeper

The draw for the first full round of the 2019/20 FA Cup takes place later today but the preliminary rounds have not been short on the classic 'magic of the cup'.

Is there any better sight in football than a ‘keeper scoring a late goal? 

And that wasn’t the only late drama in the fourth qualifying round, with Potters Bar also securing a draw deep into added time. 

3) Lallana Land

Going to Old Trafford was always going to be difficult for Liverpool, even with the Reds on a 17-game winning streak in the league and Manchester United stuttering through the early weeks of the new season.

With the history of the fixture, you just knew Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s men would turn up and it looked like they would inflict a first league defeat of the season on Jurgen Klopp’s side, thanks to Marcus Rashford’s first-half strike.

But the Reds had a trick up their sleeve. An ace in the hole they knew they could call on if things got really desperate. 

They had Adam Lallana.

4) Fantasy or nightmare?

Manchester City made up some ground on the league leaders at the weekend with a 2-0 win over Crystal Palace.

While their recent struggles may be behind them now, Pep Guardiola made sure to remind fantasy football managers everywhere not to trust any City players in your team. 

Though Palace did lose the game, they got the better of things during the halftime break. And, to be honest, isn’t that what’s really matters?

5) A point of view

Dele Alli scored a crucial equaliser to rescue a point for Spurs against Watford on the weekend. As for Watford, they’ll be kicking themselves for not holding onto all three points as they stay bottom of the table. 

6) Doing the Lambert walk

Few managers have a more complete experience of English football than Ipswich Town boss Paul Lambert.

7) Pointless possession

Fulham were one of the early season favourites to top the Championship and return to the Premier League but after 12 games, they sit in 10th place. 

The Londoners suffered a 2-0 defeat at the hands of bottom-placed Stoke City in a game which served as a pretty decent summary of their season so far. 

8) Three-oh Walcott

Admit it: no matter what happens, there is still a part of you waiting for Theo Walcott to come good and fulfill his immense potential. 

Maybe he can take inspiration from a more established player who has added more than just pace to his game to become one of the most dangerous strikers in the game. Someone like vastly experienced Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang would be good to learn from.

Oh.

9) Man of the moment

AFC Fylde were another side to book their place in the first round proper of the FA Cup at the weekend with a 6-1 defeat of Peterborough Sports.

Even with seven goals in the game, the highlight of the game came from an unexpected source. 

10) Angel no Red Devil 

Manchester United fans will always be left scratching their heads wondering why things never really worked out for Angel di Maria at Old Trafford, considering the fact the Argentine has experienced nothing but success everywhere else he has gone.
