On 6 June 1998, HBO debuted the first episode of Sex And The City to a bit of a mixed reaction from critics.

But from those choppy beginnings grew a six-season cultural phenomenon that became a global smash hit, and made superstars of its four leading ladies, Sarah Jessica Parker, Kim Cattrall, Kristin Davis, and now gubernatorial-wannabe Cynthia Nixon. It was also hailed as a television landmark for its frank and unprecedented depiction of female friendship and sexuality. 

Over the last few years, the show's legacy has been somewhat dented by two forgettable/regrettable spin-off movies, reassessments from a contemporary viewpoint, and rolling stories of cast feuds
