And there are some theories about Liverpool players’ recent baby boom

With the Premier League winter break, plus severe weather, there was a bit of a shortage of football this weekend, but that doesn't necessarily mean a shortage of football content.

Firstly, let's cast our minds back to a big night for Liverpool's players...

1) Nine months later...

It’s been nine months since Liverpool recorded that incredible comeback over Barcelona in the Champions League where Divock Origi’s late winner sent the Reds to the final. Nine long months.

It’s a night that will live long in the minds of Liverpool fans as they orchestrated a 4-0 win over one of the best teams in the world. Fans celebrated long into the night. And perhaps some of the players too.

In a startling coincidence (unless you buy Milner's theory), Mo Salah’s wife Magi also gave birth nine months and one day since that famous win over Barcelona.

Or maybe they just timed it so that it would cause as little interruption to their season as possible.

2) When you see it

Storm Ciara hit the UK hard this weekend with many games being called off across the country.

For those that did go ahead, there’s absolutely no denying that the weather played a huge part with high winds causing chaos.

And there were issues for the broadcasters too, with Falkirk’s clash with Hearts suffering from certain visibility problems for viewers at home.

3) After the storm

But there will be lasting effects of the weekend’s weather too, with many clubs needing to rebuild in the wake of the storm.

Thankfully no one was hurt at Wisbech Town’s home ground, where part of the stadium collapsed.

4) A pinch of nutmeg

Arguably the moment of the entire weekend came at the unlikely venue of a power league pitch in east London, where former Ballon d’Or winner Kaka showed up for a six-a-side game.

The Brazilian scored twice and bagged a further two assists but, most importantly, was nutmegged by Hackney Wick FC captain Jamil Farid.

Remember the name.

5) Breaking the break

The Premier League’s so-called “winter break” has raised eyebrows due to the fact it does not actually take place during the middle of winter and doesn’t actually provide a break for every team at the same time.

And it’s not just football purists who are unhappy with the staggered nature of the new break apparently, with nature itself conspiring to give Manchester City and West Ham the weekend off as their meeting at the Etihad was postponed.

6) The Italian job

Everton were one of the sides to play during the first week of the “break” as they continued their improvement under Carlo Ancelotti with a 3-1 defeat of Crystal Palace to climb up to seventh in the table.

7) You couldn’t write this...

With the Oscars taking place last night, it’s worth remembering one of the few men to successfully make the leap from football to film.

And no, we’re not talking about Vinnie Jones - it’s former Dundee United captain Neil Paterson who won an Academy Award in 1959 for best adapted screenplay with Room at the Top, beating out classics such as Anatomy of a Murder, Ben-Hur and Some Like It Hot.

8) Going full Dortmund

Erling Haaland’s remarkable scoring record came to an end at the weekend, with the Borussia Dortmund forward failing to find the net for the first time in a very long time.

Despite the Norwegian not being quite himself, Dortmund went full Dortmund as they surrendered 2-1 and 3-2 leads to lose 4-3 to Bayer Leverkusen, missing out on the chance to make up ground on Bayern Munich and RB Leipzig at the top of the Bundesliga.

9) The hero we need

Allow us to introduce you to your new favourite goalkeeper: Angolan futsal shot-stopper Neblu.

Unfortunately, Neblu couldn’t lead his country to the Africa Futsal Cup of Nations title this year as Angola finished third after losing to eventual winners Morocco in the semi-finals.

10) Culture shock

Look, there are just some terms in football that are sacred. Transfer windows always slam shut, lobs are always cheeky and a finish can only be described as “cultured” if it’s been hit with the left foot.
