Ten celebrity pairs who look so freakily alike they could be twins

Do you struggle to tell Natalie Portman and Stranger Things' Eleven apart? Katy Perry and Zooey Deschanel? You're not alone

It's unlikely that ordinary people will ever find their doppelganger - it's approximately a one in 135 chance you even have one, according to some experts.

But it appears the odds aren't as low when it comes to matching up celebrity lookalikes.

Take the example of actors Zach Braff and Dax Shepard.

Scrubs star Braff recently shared an image of himself and Shepard (star of CHiPs and husband of The Good Place's Kristen Bell) that quickly went viral. The snap shows the two guys as they are, alongside an image where their faces have been swapped around using an app.

As many people commented, they both look more or less the same in the before and after pictures.

Another recent lookalike case that freaked people out was the similarity between Stranger Things star Millie Bobby Brown, and Natalie Portman, especially when Portman was a teen star.

Things got even stranger when Portman recently played Eleven in a Saturday Night Live sketch, prompting Portman to speak up about their resemblance.

“I met Millie at the Golden Globes a few months ago," Portman said in an interview with MTV. "She came up to me and was like, ‘People keep telling me I look like the kid version of you!'" I was so flattered, because she’s absolutely adorable and so talented. I’m like, ‘That is very nice, but I think you’re your own magical person.' I see that there’s something there, but I also find her much more magical than I see myself."

Here are eight other pairs of stars that are regularly confused for each other.

Katy Perry & Zooey Deschanel

This comparison was so prevalent when pop star Perry first became famous that New Girl actress Deschanel joked about it in interviews while also sounding a bit miffed about it. "It's a little bit annoying, to be totally blunt," Deschanel said in 2009. "The only similarity that we have is that we look a little bit alike. I have met her before. She seems like a nice person. I'm happy that she's famous enough now that she's not going out and being mistaken for me."

Tom Hardy & Logan Marshall-Green

Hollywood star and CBeebies favourite Tom Hardy may be the better-known actor, but when Prometheus star Marshall-Green emerged on the scene, fans were struck by how much the two men looked alike.

Marshall-Green is philosophical about the comparison, however, especially as he has a twin brother. "I’d be honoured to be in the same sentence as Tom Hardy," he has said. "I’ve been a twin since the day I was born - fraternal, but we look a lot alike - so I’ve already been mixed up with another man my entire life."

Jessica Chastain & Bryce Dallas Howard, and  Amy Adams & Isla Fisher

This quartet of redheads has caused some confusion among movie fans, especially considering that they all rose to prominence around the same time.

To be fair, Chastain and Howard arguably share much more of a resemblance than Adams and Fisher, but that still doesn't stop people from commenting on it.

Margot Robbie & Jaime Pressly

Australian actress Margot Robbie has had a big breakthrough year with her Oscar-nominated performance in 'I, Tonya'. And it was through her red-carpet and talk-show appearances earlier this year that people noticed her similarity to My Name Is Earl star Jaime Pressly.

The two actresses even seemed to get in on the joke when they ran into each other at a Hollywood event in January.

Elijah Wood & Daniel Radcliffe

This one has been around for quite a while now, especially as the wide-eyed, baby-faced stars appeared in the Lord of the Rings (Wood) and Harry Potter (Radcliffe) franchises around the same time.

Both stars have acknowledged the resemblance.

But perhaps nothing sums it up better than this incredible transformation gif

Henry Cavill & Matt Bomer

This pair of outrageously handsome actors regularly confuses fans - and it's not hard to see why.

It's perhaps no coincidence then that Bomer was actually one of the actors in the running to play Superman - before Cavill got the part. At least Henry has a body double at hand if needs be.

Kelsey Grammer & David Hyde Pierce

Finally, this one shows just how important casting can be in TV and movies. One Twitter user did a face swap of Grammer and Hyde Pierce, who played brothers Frasier and Niles Crane on the '90s sitcom Frasier.

It turns out Hyde Pierce's casting in the crucial role wasn't entirely accidental. A Frasier casting director had previously put the actor in another show, and so when it came to finding the perfect Niles, she sent for Hyde Pierce.
