With series two of FBoy Island out now on BBC iPlayer, we’ve broken down the terminology and we’re serving up all the insider information you need to help spot the potential FBoys in your life.

What is FBoy Island?

FBoy Island is a reality TV show which gives three single women the chance to find love with a cast of 26 guys on a remote island villa. Should be easy right? The twist is half the boys are there to find love and the others are just in it for the prize money, $100,000 (£81,324).

Each week, the girls have to eliminate at least one guy from the island, who will then reveal if he is an FBoy or a nice guy. Sometimes they end up eliminating nice guys but there’s a chance to bring them back to the main villa later on in the show.

FBoy Island is hosted by American comedian Nikki Glaser, whose quick humour goes hand in hand with the witty one liners and savage snakery in this latest series.

So now I bet you’re wondering, what is an FBoy?

What is an FBoy?

We’ll leave you to guess what the "F" in "FBoy" stands for.

When watching the BBC Three series, you’ll definitely see some clear “FBoy Alert” warnings, but where did the term come from and how has it continued to survive and thrive in pop culture?

A quick search of the term throws up plenty of results. A top definition for it found in Urban Dictionary reads: “A guy who will tell a girl anything to get them to hook up with them. A complete jerk who flirts with multiple girls at a time and makes them all believe they're individually special.” This is stylised as a “f-boi”.

And according to Dictionary.com, “A f-boy is that guy… the one who doesn’t respect women, but relies on them heavily. He’s distant, doesn’t care about other people’s time, and won’t commit.”

To put it simply, an FBoy is a mashup of all the worst things about dating: someone who’s always late to dates, never wants to take you to anywhere fancy and is here for a good time, not a long one.

So with all this in mind, can you think of any FBoys in your life? Maybe it’s best you get your fill from BBC Three’s new series of FBoy Island.

What are the signs of an FBoy on the island?

In series two, the boys have some hilarious one liners, including “I’m a nice guy, but I’m not going to kiss like a nice guy” and “I don’t understand, she could have the King right here but she’s choosing that chooch.”

While this is a brand new series, it doesn’t mean we haven’t seen the return of old faces.

From series one, we have Casey who was sent to Limbro (another part of the Island that houses the bad boys, who’ve been exiled away for their behaviour) after telling female contestant CJ, “you don’t deserve any of these guys”.

With Casey returning as a nice guy contestant in series two, will he be able to prove he’s left his FBoy ways in the past?

Garrett also appeared in series one, and made it all the way to the final where he was asked to split or steal the $100,000 prize money. As an FBoy he decided to steal it for himself, an act which was swiftly shut down by Nikki Glaser who then informed him that the money would go to a charity.

It’ll take some keen deduction skills to know who’s playing who in this BBC Three series.
