Have Manchester United turned a corner with Ole at the wheel?

1) Ole’s at the wheel

It’s been quite the week for the Manchester United manager - beating Tottenham Hotspur and Manchester City. 

Sure, not many managers have had the chance to face Mourinho and Guardiola in the same week, but it’s a fun little tidbit nonetheless.

And it couldn’t have come at a better time for Solskjaer, with questions being raised over his future at Old Trafford with a potential replacement just becoming available. 

2) Pep’s got the Blues

That defeat for Guardiola’s men has left Manchester City 14 points behind Liverpool in the title race, with the Spaniard well short of his usual form at this stage in the season. 

3) Not in Manchester, but still United 

Meanwhile, the game was somewhat overshadowed by allegations of racist abuse from some fans towards Manchester United players. 

It was just the latest incident in a season that has seen a few around Europe - including in Italy, where newspaper Corriere dello Sport were criticised for a headline declaring Roma’s clash with Inter Milan to be “Black Friday”, alongside pictures of Chris Smalling and Romelu Lukaku.

After the game, the two former United players embraced in a show of support for one another.

4) Stag party

Be honest, if we told you that a Scottish Highland League side had their training session interrupted by a stag, would you picture the animal or a bunch of lads in superhero costumes?

5) Slam Dunc

Duncan Ferguson picked up a win in his first game as interim Everton manager following the sacking of Marco Silva, as the Toffees beat Chelsea 3-1 on Saturday. 

Although he kicked every ball on the sidelines, we’re sure he’s happy with his current role with the team. 

Ferguson’s passion was undeniable and there was something so sweet about the way in which he embraced his young players as they celebrated.  

6) A cracker of a prospect

Speaking of supporting youngsters, Jose Mourinho is continuing to try and reinvent himself during the brief time he’s been at Tottenham Hotspur.

The Portuguese manager has been criticised for not investing in youth in the past, but he handed a Premier League debut to promising young Irish striker Troy Parrott against Burnley.

Of course, we’d be lying if we said we weren’t excited about the possibilities this opens up for headline writers and pun enthusiasts around the country.

7) In defence of Steve Bruce

Newcastle came from a goal behind to beat Southampton 2-1 thanks to Federico Fernández’s late winner, after Alex McCarthy spilled Sean Longstaff’s strike. 

That effort puts Fernández joint second on the Magpies’ goalscoring charts this season alongside Ciaran Clark and Jetro Willems.

In fact, six of Newcastle’s 10 goalscorers in the league this season play in defence.

8) Gifs that just keep giving

It was a good week for any fans of strange celebratory gifs from official club accounts.  

First, Scottish League Two side Brechin City showed their incredible contingency planning as they had a clip ready in case goalkeeper Lewis McMinn found the back of the opponents’ net.

Then, Raith Rovers midfielder Ross Matthews offered up this gem, even if he claims it wasn't a serious submission.

9) The Vardy party keeps on going

Leicester continued to offer the only challenge to Liverpool for this season’s Premier League title as they cruised past Aston Villa with a 4-1 win thanks, in part, to a double from Jamie Vardy. 

After being labelled a one-season wonder back in 2016, the England international continues to deliver the goods. 

10) Cup final chaos

Celtic made it 10 domestic trophies on the bounce with a 1-0 win over Rangers in the Scottish League Cup final.  

The first hour of the game left a lot to be desired until Christopher Jullien gave Celtic the lead from an offside position, Jeremie Frimpong was sent off and Alfredo Morelos saw his penalty saved by Fraser Forster - all in the space of a few minutes. 

The penalty save now means Morelos has failed to score in any of his 11 Old Firm derby appearances.
