Star Wars interview on This MorningITV/This Morning

Are these the six most embarrassing moments in TV history?

This article is entirely spoiler-free about Star Wars: The Last Jedi.

Cringeworthy moments: we've all had them - whether it's falling onto a stranger's lap on the train or acing a job interview only to discover your flies were undone throughout your presentation on what you'd bring to the company.

The secret, spicy ingredient to keep you up at night with how horrible the experience was? The knowledge that other people saw it all play out.

So you probably have to feel for This Morning co-host Holly Willoughby, who earlier today, let slip a big spoiler about the new Star Wars movie, The Last Jedi, while interviewing one of its stars, John Boyega.

We're avoiding Star Wars spoilers here too, so that's all we're writing on the matter, only to say Boyega's reaction, pictured above, suggests it's a pretty huge spoiler. But if you really want to know what happened, a quick search online will tell you everything you need to know.

But Holly can take some consolation in the fact that others have been left mortified by live gaffes. Here are five other times the TV cameras have caught hilarious but deeply, deeply embarrassing moments.

Amanda Holden, This Morning, ITV, 2017

In October, Amanda Holden had a fairly excruciating exchange with Britain’s first official astronaut, Tim Peake.

Major Peake spent six months at the International Space Station last year – an impressive feat, though he wasn’t quite a man on the moon. The last person with that honour was US astronaut Eugene Cernan, in 1972.

However, that didn’t stop Holden from dropping this clanger:

Yep, Holden really did ask Peake: “Did you take a piece of the moon and bring it back home with you?”

Fortunately for Holden, Peake has spent a lifetime undergoing training on staying calm in the middle of a meltdown.

“I wasn’t on the moon,” he replied, smiling as if the question was perfectly reasonable. “I was on the space station.”

What he didn’t point out is that they are around 239,000 miles apart.

Needless to say, Holden soon became aware of her gaffe.

Ouch.

Nick Weir, Catchphrase, ITV, 2000

With Roy Walker having hung up his Catchphrase hosting boots in 1999, the following year the show returned with Nick Weir at the helm. A great opportunity lay in front of the entertainer - he could really make his mark. And that he did, though perhaps not in the way he anticipated. He was filming an episode that began with him walking down stairs.

You can imagine what happened next.

The 'blooper' was edited out of the episode. However, when Nick had to return to the studio on a pair of crutches and his foot in a cast, the Catchphrase team chose to air the fall to explain exactly how he'd injured himself...

BBC News, 2006

Here's music and internet expert Guy Kewney detailing whether rules and regulations regarding downloading will impact on the future of online music.

Except it's not.

It's Guy Goma, a computer technician who had an interview lined up at the BBC for an IT job. Watch his expression at around the 22 second mark when he realises that, not only is he the victim of mistaken identity, but he's also live on TV.

BBC News, 2017

Could the relationship between South and North Korea improve? Professor Robert Kelly was giving his opinion earlier this year during a BBC News interview.

Unfortunately, we were all a little too distracted by his family to discover exactly what this expert thought. What an amazing walk-dance, though, by his child. If only we all had that confidence.
